Art Cards Editions and Originals

When I was just starting to use ebay I would notice ACEO in some of the listings for artwork and I had to find out what it was. It turned out to be an ebay group that was listing small pieces of art that measured 2-1/2 by 3-1/2 inches only. They could be any medium and they fit into baseball card sleeves. I went at this with huge enthusiasm right away. I would sit down every night and make new ones. At first I used watercolor and pen and then I found colored pencils were easier to control. I bought bristol vellum and cut them to size with my heavy-duty paper cutter. I ordered packages of sleeves to put them in.
I had followers who bid on them and one woman in particular bought many cards and large paintings as well. One woman whose ebay name was Rainbowsdaughter bought quite a few. Then these buyers just stopped. Maybe they realized it was sort of obsession or maybe my art changed.
But I have one buyer who will always want them, except for nudes and skulls, and I feel sort of bad leaving her behind. She has been buying them for over 6 years now and must have a huge box of art cards. She says she isn't organized so I picture them just piled up in a box somewhere. Once in awhile I squeeze one out (like an old hen laying an egg) that she likes and off it goes to her in Oregon. She has been terrific as a supporter. Her ebay name is yingyang.
And yes my art did change; it does change over time.
My cousin Mary from San Francisco started collecting ACEO's too and I would check her feedback to see which ones she bought. She bought a few from me and then expanded her collection. She loves skulls, animals, funky outsider art, pretty paintings too. I enjoyed peeking on her art tastes.
Now I can hardly lift a pencil to make one. I think it has run its course for me...or maybe it is because when I moved I didn't bring my comfy couch where I used to sit in front of the tv and draw art cards at night. My daughter talked me into a rather clunky futon that isn't comfy to sit on with your legs sticking out in front of you like a wooden soldier.
But for everything there is a season.
