Loggins and Messina

Loggins and Messina: Kenny Loggins, Jim Messina.
In 1975 I was living on the North Shore of Oahu with my two small children and my boyfriend. But my boyfriend became sick with an unknown liver ailment and was in the hospital.
The neighbors invited me to a concert in Honolulu and I went. It was one of the best times I had during my island stay.
It was Loggins and Messina. I remember being on my feet in ecstasy (IN ecstasy, not ON ecstasy) grooving to their tunes. I was all of 25 years old. That concert always stayed in my memory as one of the best.
Then they separated. Kenny Loggins wanted to go out on his own.
Last night they were reunited at the Santa Barbara Bowl. Two guys in their gulp..60s...My daughter and I went together.
The moon was full or close to it and shone through the tall eucalyptus trees. We were early and watched the bowl fill up with people. Mostly couples in their late 40s, 50s and 60s. People who were witnesses to the musical revolutions of the early 70s. People who survived.
After the opening act the boys finally came out on stage. They sat on stools and I thought "Oh no, low energy." Their conversation rambled and it seemed like a lot of water had gone under the bridge...I was restless. They started off with House at Pooh Corner and the audience joined in and then it was Danny's Song, Even though we ain't got money I'm so in love with you honey, and people joined in on that too.
It just got better and better and better and by the time Angry Eyes made its appearance we were on our feet.
What a fun night.

  1. I remember Loggins & Messina. I can picture you and Lacy there, grooving to the tunes.
